Transfer Molding
Transfer Molding

Rubber Transfer Molding also called Transfer-injection Moulding, which molded process by hydraulic press (rubber compression molding machines), and just designs of mold structure is a little different from rubber compression molding. Transfer molding is ideal supplementary mold for compression molding machines in aim to save tooling cost.

Rubber Transfer Molding is designed for over-molded (metal, plastic) components, tighter control of dimensional tolerance, cylinder shaped  products (like nozzles, thin bellows or tubing), medium-precision or complicated structure rubber components.

Compared with Compression Molding, Transfer Molding also needs preformed raw material to be prepared. The preformed silicone rubber material is placed to a pot between the top plate and a plunger. After mold closes, plunger compresses the material and transfer it through sprues into the cavities.

Transfer Molding's Benefits
  1. Cost effective tooling for medium-precision rubber molded
  2. Save production cost for small-quantity liquid silicone, color rubber molded
  3. High Cavity Count: transfer molded rubber products require fewer and simpler pre-forms. One pre-form pot can fill hundreds of cavities
  4. Good Choice to over-molding with metal, plastic, glass and circuit board etc.
  5. Tighter control of dimensional tolerance: like piston seal, spraying nozzles, tubing etc.
  6. Good choice to cylinder-shaped design like small bellows, housing & case cover for mini parting lines and wall thickness tolerance requirements
  7. Less flashing and mini parting lines:Mold will not in open state due to the spilling redundant material stays in the pot, but not in the parting line of cavities
  8. Save mold cleaning charge for color-rubber molded parts production. Silicone Rubber Pre-forms can be cut by hand from raw material, thus reducing the chance of contamination that can result from the mechanical prep of compression molding or the injection screw and barrel in rubber injection molding & liquid silicone injection molding.

Transfer Molding VS Compression Molding

As with compression molding, transfer molding requires secondary raw material preparation into pre-forms. It differs, however, in the placement of these pre-forms into a "pot" located between the top plate and a plunger. When the pre-forms are placed into the pot, the mold is then closed and the material is compressed by the plunger and transferred through sprues into the cavity below.

Transfer Molding VS Injection Molding
Transfer Mould's Disadvantages
The primary disadvantage of transfer molding is found in the increase of waste or excess flash. This can be seen in the "flash pad" or the rubber left in the pot after the transfer is cured which can either be recycled or discarded.

Reduce Materials Waste: Please choose rubber injection molding with cold runner system or liquid silicon rubber injection molding (LIM Mold) for LSR materials production.
