What is Laryngeal Mask Airway?
Laryngeal Mask Airway (LMA) — also called as Laryngeal Mask, Liquid Silicone Laryngeal, LSR Silicone Laryngeal Mask, which is a medical device that keeps patients' airway open when patients are in anaesthesia or unconsciousness stage, and which is a kind of supraglottic airway device.
How does laryngeal mask work?
The airway tube that connects to an elliptical mask with a silicone cuff which is inserted through the patient's mouth, down the windpipe, and once deployed forms an airtight seal on top the glottis (unlike tracheal tubes which pass through the glottis) allowing a secure airway to be managed by a health care provider.
As we can see the laryngeal mask has a soft inflatable laryngeal mask (silicone Cuff) and a rigid, anatomically curved airway tube terminating in a standard 15 mm connector and is wide enough to accept a cuffed 8 mm tracheal tube.
Laryngeal Mask Airway (LMA) are mosly used by anaesthetists to channel oxygen or anaesthesia gas to a patient's lungs during surgery and in the pre-hospital setting (for instance by paramedics and emergency medical technicians) for unconscious patients.
Laryngeal Mask's Mian Advantages:
Liquid Silicone Laryngeal Mask make patients obtaineed excellent airway patency and did not deteriorate during the course of the anaesthetic.
Liquid Silicone Laryngeal Mask is convenient to use: medical staff can use single hand to insert in any position, without moving the head or neck from a neutral position and without placing fingers in the patient’s mouth. Laryngeal Mask also makes anaesthetist free for monitoring and do not need to support of the jaw of patients and can record keeping and other tasks.
Liquid Silicone Laryngeal Mask make it possible to maintain a clear airway throughout transfer of the patient to the recovery room.
Laryngeal Mask's Application:
For difficult airway situations, specifically including the need for manual in-line stabilisation
When there is restricted access to the patient
When personnel with intubation skills are not available
Where there is suspected cervical spine injury
Why choose Liquid silicone as material for cuff?
Compared to polyvinyl chloride and synthetic foam, Liquid Silicone Rubber is the best choice for cuff, because it's smooth and deflated in to a wafer thin ellipse. Polyvinyl chloride is too rigid and synthetic foam can not be re-used.
Laryngeal Mask using Liquid Silicone Rubber has many other advantages:
High safety, can achieve 100% FDA grade, is a better choice in medical device
With higher tear resistance and tensile strength
With short cure time & cycle can achieve mass production
Improve production efficiency
